When he stepped through the doors of the Baltimore State Hospital, FBI trainee Caleb Starling wasn’t particularly nervous, regardless of Jacklyn Crawford’s warnings. Sure, he had heard of the psychiatrist-turned-serial killer—everyone had.  But how frightening, how dangerous, could such a diminutive, delicate-looking woman be, especially one behind a pane of glass?

It didn’t take long for Starling to realize just how wrong he was.
